Netsight - Network usage monitoring and JANET backbone connection status
JANET Netsight is a distributed networking monitoring service that provides an easily understandable view of the status and performance of the JANET network. Through your local Netsight systems, you can find details on the traffic levels, reliability and performance of your Internet connection.
This information is protected by a username and password unique to your organisation. If you are not sure of your username details please contact the RSC or JANET Customer Service.
Network performance management
Network bandwidth management is essential for organisations with increasing Internet usage. Network traffic like e-learning materials, database queries, video streaming, email, VLE and Internet browsing all consume Internet bandwidth, as do spam emails and viruses.
Network bandwidth management involves a wide range of techniques and technologies including: web caching, content filtering, traffic management and QoS. Effective traffic management requires prioritisation of service requirements and an analysis of network usage. The RSC and JANET BMAS provide advice and assistance on traffic analysis and effective bandwidth management techniques.
Contact the RSC to arrange a network survey or use the RSC throughput monitoring services to analyse your network traffic, identify bottlenecks and then use this information to create your policy in prioritisation of network services.
Fault detection and network infrastructure development
The RSC provides technical advice on network infrastructure development. We also provide assistance in network fault detection and give advice on resolving the problems.
