Ice Breaking with Icons
Ask students to consider what sort of Fish, Land Animal, Bird or Face they are, and then to draw that icon of themselves. They should also write their name under their icon, and a little description of why they chose that icon for themselves, on the back of the card.
Now working in Pairs, each student shows their icon and explains to their partner why they drew it. Each person then takes a picture of the other student holding up their card caption in front of themself. The tutor collates these pictures, and uploads them to slides in Powerpoint and review of who is who, with each person commenting on their own choice of icon.
A variation would be to take pictures of students faces and their icons separately and upload to Powerpoint. Students would then have to consider which icons matched up with which pictures, and these could be married up on the screen by the tutor while in the edit mode in Powerpoint.
The final presentation could then be mailed out to the group so that everyone knows who everyone else is. Ideal for part-time and adult groups.
