Creating a Talking Gallery for Basic Skills and ESOL Lessons

If you would like to add a little extra entertainment to your lessons and encourage people to speak more, try the following…

Teach students the phrase or phrases you are practising.
After the formal session of learning, suggest that they record one of their phrases to ‘their' slide in your Powerpoint.

1. Take a picture of each of the students and ask them to do a short recording for the phrase they are practising.
2. Create a separate slide for each student with their picture and their attached sound recording.
3. Using a Menu slide, link different parts of the Menu slide to each of the students.

Resources:

  • Computer linked to projector
  • Powerpoint
  • Digital Camera
  • Sound Recording Device (MP3 Recorder is ideal).

    Benefits:
  • Students create something which has peer recognition.
  • Rewarding for students to see and hear their own content.
  • Provides a media archive of the learning from previous weeks.
