Hi5 Awards Ceremony and Dinner 2009

On the 3rd of March 2009, representatives from providers, partner organisations and the LSC flocked to the Vincent Rooms in London from the far reaches of the South East to take part in a celebration of "excellence in e-learning". In its first year, the Hi5 eLearning Awards scheme exceeded all expectations in terms of the quality and quantity of good practice taking place throughout the region. Those that attended the Awards Ceremony and Dinner witnessed the amazing buzz and contagious enthusiasm generated, as captured by these photographs and testimonials.

The Vincent Rooms, Westminster Kingsway Collage What could be a more appropriate venue for the Hi5 eLearning Awards Ceremony and Dinner than the prestigious Vincent Rooms, part of Westminster Kingsway College?

Pass on my thanks to everyone for a brilliant evening. The organisation, location etc all had the wow factor and made it really special….I think lots of people will want to visit the winners and runners up to have a look at the work.

Mathematics Tutor, Varndean College

Distance is no object as the great and the good travel from as far afield as Thanet, the Isle of Wight and Aylesbury to join in the celebrations, share ideas, network with colleagues and enjoy the occasion. People at the event

It was very good and a real success…I was hugely impressed with the award winners. The passion, commitment and imagination of the sector were impressively demonstrated by the exemplar projects. It is a real tribute to the professionalism and sense of vocation of the learning and skills community.

Just wanted to thank you and the rest of the team for all your hard work in organising the Hi5 Awards and the Awards Dinner…it was great to get together and celebrate the work individuals in colleges are doing. There’s such a wide variety of things people are doing, often very quietly, that a scheme like this really helps advertise this work, and hopefully inspire people to try new things. Certainly around my table, people were keen to take the Hi5 ‘franchise’ back into our respective colleges and use it to raise the profile of what our colleagues are doing.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and well organised event and I was personally delighted to see such clear evidence of the impact that the LSC’s investment in this area in supporting technology-enabled learning is having. Congratulations on staging such an uplifting event.

…what a great celebration that was - a super atmosphere and really uplifting to hear about the work people are doing.

Time to reflect in glory, admire the prizes and enjoy the rest of the evening with excellent food, wine and company. People at the event

What a brilliant evening …many thanks once again for all the hard work that went into the awards. Karen (Scott) and Carole (Wrycraft) are also judging our internal ICT award as the winners of Hi5 too!

~ Rosie Douglas
e-Learning Manager, MidKent College

People at the event Particular thanks go to: Geoff Booth and Gary Hunter from Westminster Kingsway College for their presentation; the students who provided such fantastic service; and Natasha and Michelle from the RSC for transforming the concept into reality.

What a fabulous Hi5 evening at Westminster Kingsway. This is the sort of thing that the sector needs to motivate and to share good practice especially in terms of ‘distance travelled’ by staff (rather than the all singing and all dancing outputs we tend to see). Rewarding staff through the Hi5 scheme is really the sustainable way forward in investing in staff skills as it gives the well deserved ‘pat on the back’ to staff who do not necessarily seek the lime light but goes a long way. There is nothing like success breeding success!
